Oven and Furnace Calibrations
Whether utilizing ovens and furnaces for conditioning, curing, drying, or heat treating samples, or for aging and weather testing products, or ash content analysis, it is critical that they are well maintained and calibrated to ensure the most accurate and reliable results in testing.
There are a wide variety of national and international test methods used in various industries and various ovens and furnaces specifically designed to meet those requirements. The first step to ensuring compliance within test methods is to select an oven or furnace designed for the test method’s requirements. The second step is to have the oven calibrated per the test method, ensuring the critical oven parameters are within the specified tolerances.
Global Instrumentation Services (GIS) expertly assists labs in making sure they have the right ovens and that they are properly calibrated to the specifications of their test methods.
Depending on the test method used, some critical oven parameters requiring calibration include:
- Temperature accuracy (system accuracy test)
- Temperature uniformity surveys
- Air velocity (air speed)
- Number of air changes (air flow)
- Time constant
GIS provides ISO/IEC 17025 accredited oven and furnace calibrations for all these parameters onsite at facilities regardless of location. Some of the test methods GIS provides calibrations for include:
- ASTM E145
- ASTM D3012
- ASTM D5374
- ISO 188,
- IEC 60216-4
